Advertising your business is important but it’s not always cheap to do!

We’re always trying to come up with creative ways to spread the word about 1Eighty Design and the professional web design & print design services we offer. QR Codes are becoming more and more popular so we wanted to utilize that technology. For those of you who are unaware of QR codes, they are those matrix barcodes that you can scan using your smartphone.

We didn’t want to simply slap one on the back of a t-shirt and lead those who scanned it to our website. We wanted there to be an enticing reason to scan.

We’ve partnered up with 1000 Park Baking Co. in Winona Lake for the current promotion. If you see the shirt around town, scan it and you’ll see the current special offer!

If you would like to partner with us on a promotion or if you’re looking for a website please contact us today! We would be happy to work with or help develop a promotional application.

1Eighty Design was very excited to work on a special project for my family members. My brother and sister-in-law are looking to adopt their second child, this time from Africa. This can be a very expensive process with multiple trips to Ethiopia in the next year as well as the expenses of going through the adoption process.

Looking for creative ways to help raise money; they asked me to help them with a t-shirt design and I was glad to contribute to get my nephew to his new home! Knowing that my sister-in-law enjoys to blog we decided a website to journal the adventure and help sell the t-shirts would be a great addition.

The website was developed using WordPress and incorporates Facebook’s social plugins for liking and commenting on posts.

If you would like to learn more, buy a t-shirt or help in any other way they would love your support!

We’re excited about the launch of the new Lausch Photography Website. Lausch Photography is located in Lafayette, IN and specializes in wedding photography but works with a variety of clients to obtain the perfect images from any event. Ed, the owner, was our first client over 10 years ago and we’ve been working with him ever since. I’m sure at this point it would be embarrassing to put up that first design but since then we’ve gone through three other versions, each one offering something new and trying something different.

With this version he can post his most recent work on the home page with his past 5 shoots showing before they are automatically archived to another page. The site also includes a Content Management System (CMS) for updating the site. The CMS will even let him post his new works to his Facebook Page automatically.

Photo Store

The custom photo store allows Ed to add as many events/accounts as he wishes. He can then upload a zip file of all the images using the CMS to the account allowing users to view them.

Here are some of the features:

Accounts can be password protected

Users can add their favorite photos to a list to choose which ones they want to purchase

When adding a photo to their cart, the user can choose from several different sizes

Checkout is done right through the site

All sales and totals are shown in the CMS with photo total output when you’re ready to print

If you are a photographer (or anyone else) who wants to sell online, contact 1Eighty Design. We would be happy to talk to you about your project and see how we can help.

Take a few minutes and answer these questions:

Is your website stale?

When was the last time you updated it?

Does your site do anything for you?

So… is it? Was your last news update from 2009? Are all your services even listed? Does your website show employees who left 7 years ago? With more and more people turning to the Internet, now is the time to be proactive. Get your site updated and keep it updated!

Updating Your Site

Did you know that your search engine rankings can be affected by not regularly updating your content? Search engines take notice if your site hasn’t changed and will slow down the amount of times they index your pages and your ranking will drop. They love to see new content!

No matter the type of business, you can always find a reason to update your site. 1Eighty Design can work with you on ideas for updating your site as well as provide a Content Management System (CMS) for updating when you want and as often as you want.

Put Your Website to Work

Is there something you do every day that could be automated? Do you have a product that you could sell online to make you money even when your store is closed? We can work with you to make your life easier and increase your profits. Whether it’s creating a custom application to help with your business’s daily operations or an online store to sell your products online; we have the skills to make your website a success.

Here is what one of our customers recently said: “The only way I have kept my head above water this year has been your service application. It has been a life saver. I can’t thank you enough. The results will be unbelievable at the end of the year.”

1Eighty Design

We are a web design and development company located in Warsaw, IN. If you are in the area and would like to discuss your site contact us today! We can help you with anything from a basic website to e-commerce or even Facebook integration.

We were contacted by Wildcat Creek Waste District in Tippecanoe County, IN to convert their annual A-Z Recycling Guide to a website. They wanted their users to quickly find out what items can be recycled and where to recycle them. The first thing users will see when arriving at the site are the steps for recycling.

Once they know the steps they can look for their items. On the home page they can either search for an item or select the first letter of the item they have to recycle. The site also features a single page where they can scroll through all of the items that can be recycled, this is important because they may see an something they didn’t know could be recycled.

Viewing an Item

When a user is viewing an item they can see a lot of important information.

They can keep a running list of all the items they have to recycle, clicking on the “Add to List” button is similar to an online shopping cart. Later they can view their list.

A list of everywhere they can bring the item in either Tippecanoe or Clinton County.

A key is shown for important information on the item.

A map of all locations is displayed.

You can add your address to the map so you can see which location might be the closest for you to bring your items.

Viewing Your List

The interface to show you the list of your items is packed full of information.

The first thing you will see are the items in your list.

Then a map is shown for each item along with every location that will take it for recycling.

The right column is where the fun happens! If you’ve entered your location the site will attempt to combine all of your items and limit the number of locations you need to go to drop off your items based on the distance.

The site also features a full content management system they can use to update the guide as well as the many recycling resources they have on the site.

Mammaw’s Sweet Shoppe in Lafayette, IN has been a client of our for a few years and were ready for a redesign. The owner sent a picture of a wedding cake to use as inspiration for the new design. The problem with wedding cakes is they are tall so we came up with a design that would utilize the picture on the entire left side of the site.

Before I continue… If you are looking for wedding cakes in Lafayette, IN you need to contact Mammaw’s. I can tell you from first hand experience their butter pecan flavored cake is a huge hit at a wedding!

Back on track… The image on the left initially made things difficult to get everything to fit on smaller screens but with some creative CSS we came up with a solution that would change the design based on the users resolution. The site will actually appear in three different layouts as you can see from the image below.

Design A will be seen when the browser is at least 950px wide, if the resolution is smaller than that it moves on to design B. Design B simply eliminates the wedding cake and moves the menu to the left. If the screen is even smaller (mobile phone) it will convert to design C moving the menu and logo above the content as well as collapsing any sub-menus on the page. When the sub-menus are collapsed we use jQuery to add some JavaScript to them so the user can click to expand on them.

The only bad part of this setup is it doesn’t work in Internet Explorer 8 or below but it does work in the other browsers such as Firefox, Chrome and Safari.
